I look at my injury as the start of my new life and never dwell over the past.Dad

I was born and raised in the country side and moved from town to town as my father was in the police force. I think the time I lived in the country was fantastic and city people don’t know what they are missing.

I was always a very sporting person and played or took part in just about every sport you could think of. All the sports I undertook I excelled in as I was a natural sports person. Later in my teenage years I changed sport to more individual sports and did athletics in the summer and cross country in the winter. I was always the age champion in these sports specialising in 400, 800, 1500 meter running events as well as javelin throwing. I was to going to tryout for the commonwealth games but I only ran for enjoyment not for prestige and instead of training went surfing. “Loved surfing”.

Vocationally I left school in 5th form (second last year of high school).
I have had 13 different jobs before working at the Airport which is where I still am… (Nov 1988).
The jobs I have had are everything from making boat anchors, upholstery, boiler maker, car wash operator, Avis rent-a-cars, register operator, motorbike assembly, plastics extrusion press operator, TNT loading and tarping trucks, service station attendant, spare parts delivery driver, spare parts manager, ACME rentals manager, builders labourer – (built factories, concreting, steel fabrication, tiling bathrooms, jack hammering, digging etc), Counting votes, sales person for VW and 4 wheel drive second hand parts, installing Cobra car alarms, building computers, parking officer, security officer that’s about it I think may have left a couple of things out but you should get the idea.

I could do just about anything or so my son though as he used to bring me things that were beyond repair saying it’s OK Daddy will fix it…and Daddy usually did!.

In 1991 my whole world changed in a split second rendering me a T8 Paraplegic and wheelchair bound.  Due to the severing of the spinal cord I was left with severe muscle spasms, violant enough to throw myself out of my chair. Also suffer from chronic pain and depression.

My return to work was to  a position I could  snot see myself  doing for the remainder of my work years so I started attending Uni at night and entered into the world of computers which lead me to where I am today.

I still believe I have so much more I am yet to achieve in life and intend to make a difference maybe not to my life but to the lives of others.
